As a career mother, it’s easy to feel like you’ve fallen behind at work because you had children.

You might think you should be further ahead or even may feel you’re so far behind that you’ll never catch up.

But the truth is you are exactly where you should be. This is your path, and it’s unfolding exactly as it was meant to.

It might feel like your most recent maternity leave set your career back years. But what you may not realise is that during this time, you developed skills that are invaluable in the workplace:

  • Your ability to multitask and manage a household
  • Unmatched organisation and planning skills
  • A deeper drive to succeed at work to create a better life for yourself and your children

These are not setbacks. They are superpowers. And reminder, you did this on little to no sleep!

You carried and birthed a child, went through the postpartum period, learned to care for a newborn, and returned to work—all while running on three hours of sleep a night.

Your experience is more powerful than any line on a CV could ever capture.

You did not fall behind, you gained resilience, perspective and strength.

As your children become more independent, your career will grow with them. You will have more time, more space, and more energy to dedicate to your professional goals. And before you know it, your career will not just recover, it will skyrocket.

Your career may not be linear, it may start and stop, it may change directions, but it can and will recover.

Also, just remember, you have far more time than you realise. You are building a family and a wonderful future; your time is coming.

Always in your corner,
